Film-Method Podcast

June 17, 2009

I am very excited to share with you a new project that I've been developing for the past few months. It's called Film Method and it's a podcast I started to interview filmmakers in order to teach the audience how to make their own independent film. The podcast will feature everyone from producers to writers to production designers and distributors! Season One will focus on the development phase of filmmaking which deals with things like hiring a director and line producer and finding financing for your film.

April Showers Movie

March 28, 2009

April Showers PosterI thought it was about time to give an update of what I've been working on lately. When I returned from my See Girl Go trip last Fall I started working with Jenna Edwards and Andrew Robinson on their film April Showers. The story was written and directed by Andrew and is based on his experiences as a survivor of Columbine. I began interning for Jenna, the producer of the film, back in October and it's been quite a ride. Jenna's teaching me all about producing independent film. She's so gracious and giving and I'm learning so much!

In February I started producing a podcast for April Showers as a way to help promote the upcoming release in April. It's been fun meeting various members of the cast and crew and learning about their experiences working on the film. In March I traveled with the April Showers peeps to Omaha, where the movie was shot, to film the events surrounding a special cast and crew screening. It was great to meet so many people involved with the film and to see what all the hype was about! Thanks to Aunt Julie, Uncle Terry and family for your hospitality!

I'm currently working with Andrew on a multi-part April Showers "making of" documentary. Check out the website at www.aprilshowersmovie.com to learn more about the film. You can listen to the podcasts on the website and see the documentaries there as well. If you are interested in hearing the podcasts every week please go the iTunes store and subscribe!

Tuesday, February 5, 2008: Soonami Productions: New Carlsbad Production Company Launches

A new production company called Soonami Productions (www.soonamiproductions.com) launches today in Carlsbad, California. The launch of the company and website coincides with the release of Soonami’s first short film Drips. The film is an endearing tale of two social outcasts who fall in love at first sight. The film stars two local actors Julianna Lorenz and Nick Steklov.

Cynthia Freeman, the company’s founder has lived in San Diego for the past 15 years and studied theatre at SDSU. “For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to make films and I finally realized that there was nothing keeping me from doing it besides myself.” As stated on the website, Soonami Productions is “a group of people passionate about film, theatre, music, photography, video production and fine art.”

The group will focus on film and other visual means that explore the power of human connections. Freeman believes that within these mediums there is a unique opportunity to demonstrate how we as humans are motivated by similarity and commonalities. Soonami Productions currently has a few projects in development including a video web cast, an online artist community, and a documentary series.
